![]() The team practiced twice a week at Northwoods and Cedar Glades County Park last season as members continued to improve throughout the year. During the Thoroughbreds' most recent season, some members on the team were beginner riders with no prior experience at all. There are also different divisions within the grades depending on skill level.Īlthough mountain biking might seem like a daunting task, the team takes student athletes of any skill and ability. Members of the team range from sixth graders to high school seniors, and the student athletes only compete against other students their age at competitions. The Thoroughbreds have team members from Lake Hamilton, Lakeside, Hot Springs, Magnet Cove, Fountain Lake, Mountain Pine and even home schooled students. "I think most of the new kids from this year came from those kids just talking to those kids, just talking to their friends at school and parents also." "We have kids right now from all schools in the area," Adam Moore said. While outreach has been a challenge, Parker said that team director Briana Moore and assistant head coach Adam Moore have good plans going forward on how to bring more people to the team. Parker even spoke at Hot Springs High School to try to recruit more members to the team. "So we started our own team here."īeing an under the radar sport, Parker said it has been a challenge to get students to join the Thoroughbreds at times. ![]() "We just wanted to have an opportunity for the kids to have a closer team than Conway or Fort Smith," former head coach and now team board member Jona Parker said.
